The Siege of Ladysmith was a protracted engagement in the Second Boer War, taking place between 30 October 1899 and 28 February 1900. Rare 1st ed. Colonial editions were printed first so they could be despatched by ship intime for release on the other side of the world. CONDITION Blue cloth with bright gilt titles (bottom front cnr bumped, cloth worn to spine ends and tips, pp iv 244 with 6 photo plates, 3 maps and a large fold out map to rear. One photo plate noted in contents is not present and probably never was as often with Colonial editions not all illus were ready due to early dispatch to reach Colonies in time for release. Copy is bright and crisp, inscriptions have been scratched out to front past down and half title, tissue guard is not present to frontis, very occasional fox spot. Overall a very nice copy internally. Good/No Jacket.
