Description: Frankfurt, 1671 Engraved Frontispiece + titlepage woodcut + 43 text illustrations . FORE-EDGE PAINTING [3 figures in a landscape,a fairly simple illustration with an unreadable signature to edge] sm.4to Vellum with ink spine title & date etc.and a yapp fore-edge. [small"bite" out of the top of the fore-edge with 13mm by 5mm loss] Handsone frontis with 7 illustrations of carriages with elepahant, tigers etc pulling them. +Printed title with printer's woodcut + To the reader + 2 poems. +286pp [=Part I] + 422p [=Part II & V.C.Pyrrhi Ligorii Neapolitani de Vehiculis Antiquoru iatriba,Excerpta ex Libris ejus de Familiis Romanis…. Joannis Schefferus Argentoratensis.] Quite some heavy browning but still entirely readable and also some much lighter tanning. The front fore-edge of most pages have a narrow tide line always well within the blank margins and possibly due to some cleaning in order to paint in the fore-edge illusration. The fore-edge picture is of a later date -probably Victorian. The endpapers are dusty and somewhat soiled but without any ink or other permanent marks.
