Description: Basel [Switzerland], Sebastian Henricpetri March 1575 [in colophon] full page printer's emblem dated 1569 of hammer striking fire from the rocks + Morell printer's mark of a tree with entwined greek motto ribbon . sm.8vo blind stamped leather over bevelled wooden boards on 4 raised spine bands with clasps [lacking catches to clasps and spine rebacked with newer black title label in gilt/ edges worn with some leather loss to corners/old leather with some rubbing] All edges red [48pp =titlepage + dedication + index] +751pp +[1p=printer's emblem] BOUND WITH 2nd work [16pp =titlepage + dedication +De Prophetica +Privilege +catalogue of prophets & of women.] + 255pp +[1p=blank] Short worm track to lower gutter margin of some preliminary pages becoming a singe small hole tucked right into the gutter then petering out. 2nd work with 2 small holes to fore-margin becoming a short track before becoming two sm.holes again. All holes do not touch print and track touches but does not affect legibility of 4 letters only. The paper is crisp and clean with a very very feint marginal damp mark to some fore-edge margins, it never affects the text or makes the paper less crisp. The second work has 3 leaves with side notes which are slightly cropped and two and a half gatherings are slightly tanned.Name to Pastedown & Monastory S. Augustine [1644 to foot of titlepage. Also Bibliotheca C.SS.R.Trudonopoli stamp to upper corner of free endpaper. This work also has nice decorated initial capital letters and is printed throughout in italic type except for the preliminaries. The first volume deals with Women and chastity, modesty and the revenge of those raped. The secound with the lives of the prophets and holy women. An Early book on Fremale chastity and Rape. RARE 1st title two copies in Worldcat one in Basel Switzerland. 2nd title One copy in French National Libr. No others found.
