Description: Lugduni [Lyon} & Aureliae Allobrogum [Geneva], Vidua Ant. De Harsy & Petrus de la Roviere 1611 & 1607 Printer's device on title page. . Octavo, dated binding of gilt and blindstamped vellum, laced through hinges. Gilt "D M AOD 1618" to front cover and 4 gilt foliage tools between blindstamped spine bands. Later inked title to spine. Three sets of blind-rules the middle with stylized foliated design a central cartouche with crucifixion in floral oval framing with leopard heads. Gilt corner ornaments, Lacks ties but with yapp fore-edge. [16pp incl title, dedication and Stephanus' preface +470pp [recte 472 as 127-8 are used twice] + [88p incl. annotations + index]. Titlepage with round library stamp in pale lilac + release stamp. Name cut out & repaired with old paper. Publishers woodcut of crustacean holding a butterfly on title. Text in parallel Greek and Latin columns. With side notes. Crisp and clean with a few old neat underlingings. Approx ten headpieces, some tailpieces and a few decorative initials. The Codinus Constantinopolis with an oval showing a man pointing at the water below but looking at rays from a cloud. Name cut out repaired as above [no library marks] + 103pp [recte 101pp as numbers 15/6 are omitted no loss catchwords & gatherings complete] + 2nd title page with same printer's mark but no cut out or stamps +35pp with titlepage included +[5pp=index] Text of first part on opposite pages in Greek and Latin, Part 2 being the notes are interspersed Greek and Latin. A neat clean crisp copy. Bookplate of Stralsundischen Gymnasium to front pastedown. The first book is a history of the Roman Emperors after Marcus Aurelius, starting with Commodus & ending with Balbinus. *George Codinus is the name given to an anonymous late 15th century Byzantine author based in Constantinople.
