Endpapers rather browned, rest of paper only sl.tanned and book block neat and tight. 1st volume covers loose. *The author originally French spent more than 20 years in America and this book was intended for the AMERICAN market as well as the French. Having an English wife and travelling without the necessity of an occupation he was fortunate to be about to travel at will. He had introductions to many people he might not otherwise have met, because of his wife's aquaintances and was interested in not only scenery but the finances, politics and literature etc. He found courtesy and interst everywhere and found the country one of the happiest. There is an Appendix on Ireland in the second volume.
