Small octavo contemporary full calf with 5 raised bands and gilt rules and maroon label (hinges cracking/tips worn and head & foot chipped) (Xiv)+272pp a neat copy. *After Cambridge Waller was elected to Parliament where he was a noted orator favouring the Royalists and plotting to oust the roundheads in what became known as Waller's Plot but this was discovered he was arrested, fined and exiled, returning only at the Restoration. He refined the heroic couplet, was a member of the Royal Society and held up as an example by Pope and Dryden. Best remembered for his lyric poems.
