GILFILLAN, George, Rev. (Editor).
A memoir of Thomas Ebenezer Taylor, (who died, aged 21 years.) by his father. With selections from his literary remains.
London: H J Tresidder; Ulverston: J. Stanyan Bigg, printer. 1864. 8vo. [ii], iii[i], 162pp, real photo frontis. Original blind-stamped purple cloth gilt, peach endpapers, uncut. Spine and edges of boards browned; extremes lightly rubbed; very slight spotting to title and last page. Allibone's entry for Taylor is brief, but does refer to the 1864 2nd edition. This memoir of a minor Furness poet contains several references to the Ulverston and Lancaster railway, later the Furness Railway Company, for which the young Taylor worked. The literary remains include the prose piece 'Legend of Coniston Lake' and, amongst the poems, 'The Furness Rifle Volunteers'. The substantial alphabetical subscribers' list is then sub-listed according to the number of copies taken; multiples were ordered by many of the subscribers, peaking at 25 by Aaron Brown of Liverpool, and 20 by A. Brogden of Grange. * COPAC: BL, NLS (both 2nd editions). OCLC adds five copies in North America, three of which may be firsts. Not in Garbutt and Leeson.
