The American authors Rex Beach (1877-1949) and Grace Livingston Hill (1865-1947) were both prolific and popular novelists of their time. Mary Dunn's (1900-1958) Lady Addle character was the focus for her entertaining series of novels, most written in the 1940s; The World of Lady Addle, of which the content is more satirical than other novels in this selection, was published posthumously and comprises of two of the most popular works from the Lady Addle series.This selection comprises:The Silver Horde by Rex Beach (A. London, 1919; undated, dated through copies held at the British Library) The Crooked Plough by Thora Stowell (Leonard Parsons, London, 1926; first edition, second impression) White Orchids by Grace Livingston Hill (Grosset & Dunlap, New York, 1935; first edition, first printing) The World of Lady Addle, comprising The Memoirs of Mipsie and Lady Addle at Home by Mary Dunn (Robin Clark, London, 1985; The Memoirs of Mipsie was originally published in 1947, and Lady Addle at Home was originally published in 1945) Publisher's advertisements to the rear of The Silver Horde, Happy House and White Orchids. In the publisher's original cloth bindings, with the original dust wrappers. Externally, cloth generally remains bright and smart to all volumes, except for The Crooked Plough, which has damp staining to the boards. A little fading to the lower extremities of Happy House. Ink inscription to the front free end paper of White Orchids, and to the verso of the front free end paper of The World of Lady Addle. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are age toned but generally clean, except for the odd spot to the fore edge, affecting the occasional page. Dust wrappers are mostly bright and unclipped, apart from the dust wrapper to The World of Lady Addle, which is price-clipped. Chipping to the head and tail of the spine to The Silver Horde. Soiling to the spine of The Crooked Plough, with chipping to the folds of the flaps. Very Good . Ill.: Not Stated. Very Good/Very Good.
