¶ Abbey Travel 230. Containing the sum of Pinkertons exceptional knowledge of Russia gained in his work for the British and Russian Bible Societies. He travelled extensively observing the character, manners, religious practices, folklore, hospitals, and prisons, economy and social condition of the Russian people. Including discussion of serfdom, of the Russian Jewish population, the problem of drunkenness, the enmity between Russians and Poles. An appendix contains several examples of preaching styles prevalent among the Russian clergy.
