HOLY BIBLE. (Formerly owned by Earlam/Williams/Birchwood/Hartley/Park etc.families)
Manchester. Printed & Published by J. Gleave of 196 Deansgate. Not dated but probably circa 1820., The Holy Bible with a Complete Commentary ...containing the Apocrypha, and the New Testament., Embelished with Elegant Engravings." Bound in an embossed leather cover, the spine has elaborate decoration in gilt (click on scan) the first owner's initials & date (1820) are printed on the bottom of the front cover, and his daughter's husband's printed on the top of the front cover, with date 1862. This is a beautiful Family Bible, with connections to the Williams, Birchwood, Erlam, Park and Hartley families. The first entries are Charles Williams born 1799 at Frodsham, and Ann Birchwood, born 1796 at Clotton in Cheshire, the later entries are in Liverpool. It is very large, 16.5" x 10.75" (42.5 cm.x 27 cm. ) very thick and very heavy, at least 8 kg. when packed, so postage within the UK, (as far as I know) will be about £18.00 for first class. One page of family history is loose, and some edges of the first few pages have been re-enforced, the title page is very foxed, some engravings are foxed, otherwise contents are clean. The decorated leather cover is worn & rubbed on edges & corners. The front hinge has split so the front cover is detached from the book, the back cover and spine are still attached. More scans can be sent on request. 1820
