A curious print, probably a book illustration (given the presence of a fold in the left edge of the sheet) from around 1650.

The ceiling features Zeus with an eagle, a woman in a chariot, and an emperor's portrait, all surrounded by a lush decoration of acanthus leaves and putti.

Ceiling design with Aeneas carrying his father

Etching on laid paper, by Jacques Lepautre after the designs of Adam Philippon from the book "Curieuses recherches de plusieurs beaus morceaus d'ornemens antiques et modernes, tant dans la ville de Rome ques autres villes et lieux d'Italie" published in 1645, sheet size 231 x 135 mm., cropped within platemark, otherwise excellent. An ornamented ceiling with an octagonal coffer that contains an image of Aeneas fleeing Troy with Anchises and Ascanius. Above that a rosette surrounded by four figures and acanthus scrolls in a star-shaped panel.
