A view of the Capitol in Washington, with figures, riders and carriages in the foreground. Steel engraving on laid paper, sheet size 116 x 179 mm., engraved by Ernst Friedrich Grünewald after H. Brown, and published by the Bibliographisches Institut, Hildburghausen, ca. 1840. This print was probably taken from Meyers Konversations-Lexikon. Ernst Friedrich Grünewald (1801-1848) was a German engraver and printmaker. In good condition, some toning and discolouration in the margins, minimal soiling in the image area.

A view of the Capitol in Washington, with groups of figures and carriages in front. Lithograph on wove paper, sheet size 164 x 254 mm. Lithograph by C.C.A. Last, printed by P. Blommers (The Hague), ca. 1850. Carel Christiaan Anthony Last (Amsterdam 1808-1876 The Hague) was a Dutch painter, draughtsperson and lithographer. He studied at the Koninklijke Academie (Royal Academy) in Amsterdam and was taught by Belgian painter Jean-Baptiste Van der Hulst, while he resided in The Hague. While he drew and painted interiors and portraits, he is mainly remembered as one of the first Dutch artists to use the new medium of lithography. In good condition. Lower margin uneven from removal from a book. Some scattered foxing and soiling in the margin edges. A dampstain in the lower right corner, covering a small part of the image area.
