Mungo Park, African Discovery a Narrative of Travel and Adventure in Central Africa
Mungo Park
African Discovery a Narrative of Travel and Adventure in Central Africa
Edinburgh, Thomas Nelson, 1845. Cloth. A delightful and important nineteenth century work on African travel, in a pocket-sized format. A scarce and unusual imprint, with little record of this edition's existence. This copy's pagination is alike to Nelson's previously published 1831 and 1841 printings of this work. However, this copy does not have an entry on Worldcat or Copac. In a contemporary blue cloth binding with gilt stamping to the spine. With a frontispiece of Mungo Park. Mungo Park was the first westerner known to have travelled to the central portion of the Niger River. He penned many works on his travels, which instantly became best-sellers. Europeans knew very little of Africa prior to Park's publications and therefore the knowledge he shared was highly sought after. In a full cloth binding with gilt stamping to the spine. Externally, smart, with patches of light rubbing to the joints and extremities. Small spill to the spine of work. Minor bumping to the head and tail of spine. Front hinge is strained but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright, with some light offsetting from frontispiece and occasional spots to pages. Very Good . Ill.: None Stated. Very Good .
