VERY RARE. covers show overall light soil, edges are worn , piece missing from lower foreedge of rear cover, loose in binding, cover illustrations on cover show some wear, Vovelle.. a paper disk attached behind a cover,when the disk is rotated it reveals alternative pieces of information on the cover page. The first edition of this scarce work.'The House That Jack Built is a popular English nursery rhyme, thought to originate from the sixteenth century. This volume contains two versions of the rhyme, the second one being close to the traditional nursery rhyme.Illustrated with a chromolithograph frontispiece, and eleven chromolithograph plates. Collated, complete.The illustrations are by J. R. Harris.Undated, dated from Jisc from a copy held at the Victoria and Albert Museum Libraries. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities, resulting in a small amount of loss of cloth. Small tears to the joint. Light rubbing and a few minor marks to the cloth. Front hinge is starting but firm. Bookplate to the front paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Founded in 1903, the company produced simple printed cloth books, ideal for very small children.'The House That Jack Built' is an English nursery rhyme, which became popular after Randolph Caldecott illustrated a version of it, which was published in 1878. This edition is illustrated in colour to each page, including to the wraps. Ink inscription to the first page, "Kathleen Hoy, 12-3-15".Undated, dated from WorldCat. In the original publisher's cloth wraps. Externally, generally smart. Cloth is a little faded and rubbed, with a few light marks. Internally, firmly bound. (4.6 x 3.6 inches). 8pp, plus publishers green wraps, printed in black to the front panel with title, publisher and woodcut illustration. Unsewn but with the later addition of a pin to keep it all together. Each page with one or two, a total of ten, woodcuts and text printed below. A few creases to the page edges but overall a very good example of this rare edition. ---- No copy of this edition listed on Worldcat or Copac. ---- Fairburn was located at this address from 1820 to 1842.- P.A.H. Brown. London publishers and printers. p. 65. ---- The Osborne collection in Toronto has a similar edition, dated 1820 and published by Fairburn, that it records as being illustrated by Smeeton.
