London, Jonathan Cape, 1984. First edition. Cloth. A first edition, first impression of Anita Brookner's award-winning novel, in the original unclipped dust wrapper. The first edition of this work in the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original unclipped dust wrapper. Anita Brooker (1928-2016) was an English novelist, best known for this novel, for which she was awarded the 1984 Booker–McConnell Prize. The plot follows Edith, a romance novelist, during her stay at a hotel in the Alps, after some turmoil in her personal life. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, cloth is smart, except for a couple of small marks to the front board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are age toned but clean. A label has been removed to the verso of the title page, leaving a small hole, which affects one letter of the author's name to the title page. Dust wrapper remains bright, with a little chipping to the tail of the spine. The front flap has a small patch of abrasion, not affecting the text. Very Good Indeed . Ill.: Not Stated. Very Good Indeed/Near Fine.
