[Museum of Comparative Zoology]
Report of the Trustees of the Museum of Comparative Zoology. 1861-1900.
Harvard, MA, The Trustees of the Museum of Comparative Zoölogy, 1861-1900. 40 reports in two volumes. Thick 8vo (23.5 x 14.5 cm). Contemporary uniform red, gilt-bordered half morocco over marbled boards. Spines with five raised bands, gilt vignettes and title. Top edges gilt. Printed wrappers bound in. = A rarely seen uninterrupted set, from the start, up to the year 1900. Even individual reports are very scarce. These volumes deal mainly with the activities of personel and associates, acquisition of new material (zoological object arranged systematically), donations of books, biological specimens, etc.; and laboratory activities, building activities regarding the museum and biological stations, etc., etc. From 1875 onwards, Annual Report of the curator to the Committee of the Museum was added to the title. Still later, the Trustees were dropped from the title. Illustrations on plates or folded charts include floor plans and new buildings. An average yearly report contains some 30 to 50 pages. Provenance: an autograph of the Bostonian entomologist Samuel Henshaw (1852-1941) on the front free endpaper recto, and his armorial bookplate "Esse quam videri" mounted on front pastedowns. A stamp of the American malacologist Richard Irwin Johnson (1925-2020) on the front free endpaper recto. Boards rubbed at hinges and edges, otherwise very good.

Réunion extraordinaire de la Société Géologique de France. 1838-1845; 1849-1851.
Paris, Société Géologique de France, 1838-1851. 11 volumes in 11. 8vo (22.5 x 14.0 cm). Numerous pages; several profiles (some large, folded) original blind or printed wrappers. = These are the results of the yearly extraordinary gatherings of the French geological society. The regular meetings were held in Paris, but these extraordinary meeting were hosted in different towns all over France, allowing to meet local geologists and to survey various geologically interesting places. Each contains a list of participants, descriptions of outcrops, etc., and, usually, a plate showing profiles, etc. The list of host towns is as follows: 1838 Porrentruy (Switzerland), 1839 Boulogne, 1840 Grenoble, 1841 Angers, 1842 Aix les Bains, 1843 Potiers, 1844 Chambéry, 1845 Avallon, 1849 Épernay, 1850 Mans, 1851 Dijon. In fact, the 1838 meeting could be the first. The rather ephemeral character of these published results make them uncommon, and these early volumes even rare. Currently, the website of the French geological society does not even mention them in their historical review, goinbg back to 1852, except for the 1842 gathering in Aix. Mostly uncut, with wrappers rather worn, especially at spine folds, otherwise very good.
