Amsterdam, 1808. Zeer fraaie bewerkte band in rood marokijn, oblong, 19.5 x 12 cm. afkomstig uit de Rocaille-and-Flower Bindery, Amsterdam, 1775-1812. Een pagina is beschreven met een gedicht, alle andere pagina's zijn blanco. Op het voorplat de naam W. Spieringh. Op het achterplat het jaar 1808 in Romeinse cijfers. Een Album Amicorum, ook wel vriendenboek of in het Duits (het ontstaansgebied) Stammbuch genoemd, werd vanaf de 16e eeuw gebruikt door vaak adellijke jongeren om hun netwerk van contacten of interessante ontmoetingen te bevestigen. Veelal werd door studenten op hun academische reis door Europa een inscriptie gevraagd bij professoren of medestudenten. Vaak werd daarbij een mooie tekening van een familiewapen gemaakt, naast een (Latijnse) spreuk of een gedicht. De Rocaille- en Bloemenbinderij is genoemd naar een set gereedschappen waarop een bloem is afgebeeld in een grote horizontale rocaille (schelpmotief), die te vinden is op zes van de zeventien bekende werken uit het atelier, die bijna allemaal zeer luxueus zijn uitgevoerd. Very fine binding in red morocco, gold tooled, 19.5 x 12 cm. from The Rocaille-and Flower Bindery. It was active in Amsterdam between 1775 and 1812. This bindery is named after a set of tools depicting a flower in a large horizontal rocaille that can be found on six of the seventeen known podiucts from the workshop and on almost all that are truly luxurious. (Band iets geschaafd) Prachtig, decoratief, gebonden exemplaar van een Nederlands kerkboek met daarin de Psalmen, de Evangelische Gezangen, het Vervolg daarvan, de Catechismus en de Formulieren. Voorzien van twee 18 karaats gouden sloten met afbeeldingen van bijbelse kruiken in vierkante kaders, versiert met slingers van bladeren en fraaie, goudbestempelde riempjes, eveneens met afbeeldingen van bijbelse kruiken in vierkante kaders, versiert met slingers van bladeren. Het geheel is vastgezet met bloemvormige gouden spijkertjes. De sloten zijn vervaardigd door de Rotterdamse edelsmid Adrianus van Bemme, 1772-1811. De letters MST zijn aan de binnenzijde van de aanzetstukken gestempeld samen met de jaarletter 'b' (1809), en het keurmerk van de stad Rotterdam. 492, 10, n.p. Dutch church book, containing the Psalms, Hymns, all verses with full musical notation, and the Forms. Attractive binding bound in red morocco with floral decoration, gilded at the edges, and with two 18 carate golden clasps. The clasps are formed of biblical jars in square frames, decorated with garlands of leaves and with fine gold-stamped straps, also with pictures of biblical jars in square frames, decorated with garlands of leaves. The whole is fastened with flower-shaped gold nails. The clasps are made by a goldsmith from Rotterdam named Adrianus van Bemme, 1772-1811. The fittings are marked with the letters MST, stamped on the inside of the hasps together with the letter 'b' for the year 1809. Finely bound in highly elaborate paneled plum morocco gilt by Corfmat incorporating red, tan, and green morocco onlays and monogram [?]C.B. stamped on covers, Rel. Par. Corfmat stamped in gilt on spine, doublures, red watered silk endpapers, gilt edges (upper inner hinges split, but silk cords holding, joints a little rubbed, minor old repairs at the head of spine). Provenance: old illegible inscription on front free endpaper. The British Library contains 7 bindings by Corfmat which are part of the Charles Ramsden Collection of Signed Bindings. They appear in the catalogue with the following note: According to the directories, J. Corfmat first appears at [Rue] St. Jacques 110 in 1840 where he continued till 1843. His favourite decoration is à la rocaille. Further, there is a number of other binders of the same name and approximate period, which it is difficult to place exactly. Thus there is a second Corfmat in the 1842 Almanach at Galande 37; an E. Corfmat Jeune at St. Sévérin 16 in 1847- 1849 and yet another at Zacharie 9 in 1849 (P.
