Some minor foxing to about a third of the pages. Overall a very good copy in original black and red snakeskin patterned cloth, with the spine lettered in gilt. Some minor rubbing to the extremities of the cloth but overall a very good example of Waugh's first collection of short stories with the gilt still very bright and vibrant.

A little light foxing to the first few leaves otherwise a bright and clean copy in the publishers oatmeal cloth with dark blue lettering to the spine. In the original colour illustrated dustwrapper which has been price clipped to the front inner flap. Repair to the reverse of the wrapper covering some loss to the bottom of the wrapper spine, affecting the lettering of the word and in the publishers name, and tape used to strengthen the corners. A few small splits to the extremities, without loss, and some rubbing to the edges. Overall a very good book in a near to very good example of this fragile war time wrapper.

A little rubbing to the very bottom of the spine but overall a near fine copy of Waugh's first commercially published solo work, preceded only by a short story featured in a 1926 anthology called Georgian stories, and two privately printed works; a poem and his essay on the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood which was issued in an edition of just fifty copies.

A very good copy in attractive early leather binding of full red morocco. Spine with raised bands, the compartments ruled, lettered and fully decorated in gilt. Elaborate decorative gilt panel within single gilt ruled and two blind ruled borders on both boards. Bevelled edges. Gilt inner dentelles. Coated yellow endpapers. All edges gilt. Bound by Lewis and Williams binders of Cardiff and with their small label to the inner rear board. Noted Irish author Joyce Cary's copy with his ex libris, and his son Michael's just below, on the front pastedown endpaper. Some minor rubbing to the edges but overall a very god copy.

Bound for presentation to Churchill's Daughter Mary Soames. ----- FIRST EDITION of first and third work, second edition of second work. 4to and 8vo. Programme for the Churchill: What the papers say exhibition of 1997, and prospectus for the Rylands Research Institute are both hard bound, complete with colour covers bound in, in light blue half cloth bindings with gilt lettering to the spines and marbled paper on the boards. These both measure 11.8 x 8.6 inches. Farnie Biography of Rylands is bound in half red cloth with marbled paper on boards and gilt lettering on the spine and measures 9.9 x 6.3 inches. All three volumes are housed in a custom made clam shell box with smaller cut away space for the 8vo volume. The box is covered in dark blue leather and stamped onto the front panel is the presentation notice; "The Lady Soames DBE - On the occasion of the opening of the exhibition - Churchill: What the papers say - The John Rylands Library, Wednesday 21 May 1997". All three volumes and clam shell box are in fine condition. With the posthumous ex libris bookplate of Churchill's daughter, Mary Soames mounted onto the inner front board of all three volumes.

A collection of maps, engraved views, photographs and a hand written letter detailing the writer's travels which accompanies the photo's. Attractive early twentieth century craft binding of full dark green morocco. Spine with decorative gilt border and emerald green morocco shamrock onlays. Boards with single gilt ruled borders. Each corner with circular design incorporating Fleur-de-lys and emerald green morocco onlays with gilt borders of Shamrocks. A similar design is in the centre of the board. The inner line of the border on both boards is decorated with morocco onlay and gilt shamrocks. All edges gilt. The spine is a bit faded but overall this is still an attractive craft binding. Previous owners name, Arthur Herve Browning (A member of a Huguenot community in Portarlington, County Laois, Ireland) written in neat calligraphy to the front free endpaper.

FINE BINDING BY DREYFOUS.
BLANK BOOK.
NP. ND. Circa 1890. FINELY BOUND BLANK BOOK. (6.1 x 4.6 inches). Circa 150 blank leaves of laid paper. First five pages have neat hand written poems and there is a neat four line inscription, dated 1892, to the front blank endpaper, otherwise clean and unmarked throughout. Full dark green crushed morocco binding by (or possibly for, although the British Library lists one of the bindings in its collection as being bound by Dreyfous) Dreyfous of London, and with their paper label to one of the blank endpapers. Spine with raised bands, the compartments ruled and decorated in gilt. Both boards with decorative gilt borders and elaborate gilt design within. Double gilt ruled lines to the board edges. Gilt inner dentelles around red silk endpapers. All edges gilt. Spine faded and a little rubbed and there is one small hole to one hinge but still a very attractive binding, housed in a morocco slip case with marbled inner papers. Both side panels of the slip-case have the same gilt tooled design as the book boards. the three edges have the same gilt decorative borders to all edges. The case is darkened and a bit rubbed to the extremities but overall this is still an atttractive and finely bound item.

A one inch split to the bottom lower hinge of the Bible and some minor rubbing to the edges but overall they are in very good condition. The bindings are not signed. A very attractive little set.

Spine with raised bands with gilt ruled lines. Compartments ruled and lettered in gilt. Single gilt ruled line border on boards and board edges. Top edge gilt, the others untrimmed. Marbled endpapers. Decorative gilt roll to the turn-ins. Some offsetting to the endpapers from the leather turn-ins. A very good copy in an attractive late nineteenth century leather binding that has some very light wear to the edges and the spine darkened to an attractive brown colour but is overall very good indeed.
