All in, quite a lovely exemplar of the Third Edition (with Preface to Second Edition included), a Very Good condition copy and with many, many score engravings. Big, tall, Imperial octavo format, raspberry cloth over boards, involved lettering and illustrations in gilt and black to both covers and spine. Bumping to, scuffing of spine head and tail, gilt edges all round. Front bottom tip rubbed, moderate rubbing to tips, edges, extremities, else still quite handsome and sturdily bound. Binding done by Edmonds and Remnants, of Boston, with their bindery stamp inside rear flap at bottom near spine. Quite fine black-and-white engraved frontis, a decorated title page. The plates are arrestingly beautiful, engraved by Thomas Bolton, Dalziel, De Wilde, Edmund Evans, W.T. Green, Horace Harral, Mason Jackson, Henry Leighton, Smythe/Smyth, Joseph Swain, William Luson Thomas, and Josiah Wood Whimper and others, after designs provided by John Leighton. xvi, 1-241 pp., the whole translated and edited, with additions, by Richard Pigot.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. . . .
