Zij is lid van de Royal Geographical Society, de Explorers Cluben de Long Riders Guild. Ze heeft ruim 25 woestijnexpedities op haar naam staan. In Mauretanië ontmoette ze de laatste vrouwelijke karavaangidsen, die in de vorige eeuw handelskaravanen door de Sahara begeleidden. In Arita's laatste boek Desert Songs blikt de ontdekkingsreizigster terug op de tochten die zij afgelopen twintig in Egypte en Soedan maakte. De reisboekhandels in Nederland kozen Desert Songs tot Beste reisfotoboek 2008. In september 2013 verscheen The Modern Explorers bij Thames & Hudson, met een hoofdstuk over de woestijnexpedities van Arita Baaijens.Verder verschenen van haar Oase Farafra (2003), overeen rustiek dorpje in een uithoek van Egypte tot de vondst van water het naar de 21e eeuw katapulteerde, Een regen van eeuwig vuur (1998) over haar eerste woestijnreizen: zoektocht naar oudheden, wanhoop als ze geen water vindt, lange dagmarsen en soms verstikkende eenzaamheid, De geur van kamelen (1993) een bundeling artikelen met illustraties van liefhebbers en kenners van de dromedaris die voor het gemak kameel wordt genoemd en De woestijn als passie (1995).De onvermoeibare avonturierster keerde zojuist terug van een geslaagde expeditie in Centraal-Azië, waar zij het paradijs zocht en als eerste in de moderne geschiedenis het Altajgebergte te paard omcirkelde.
