Cover design: collage by Max Ernst from his book 'La semaine de bonté. Uncommon catalogue made to promote the 1947 classic of experimental film of the same name by Hans Richter. The booklet documents the range and depth of the film, a collaborative project for which Richter brought in contributions from a who's who of the mid-century avant-garde. The film itself consisted of seven separate dream-sequences sold by Joe, the dream salesman: 1). Desire by Max Ernst. 2). The girl with the prefabricated heart by Fernand Leger. 3). Ruth, roses and revolvers by Man Ray. 4). Discs and nudes descending a staircase by Marcel Duchamp. 5). Ballet by Alexander Calder. 6). Circus by Calder and 7). Narcissus by Hans Richter himself. Other collaborators who contributed actors, designers, writers, and composers included Julien Levy, Paul Bowles, Libby Holman, Josh White, Darius Milhaud, John Cage, David Diamond, Richard Huelsenbeck, John Latouche and others. The booklet is thoroughly illustrated with stills and production photos, and includes text contributions by Louis Appelbaum, John Cage, Richard Huelsenbeck, Siegfried Kracauer, Marcel Duchamp, Max Ernst, James Johnson Sweeney, and Man Ray. The movie had the price for the best contribution to the progress of Cinematography Biennale Film Festival 1947. (28) pag.
