Written in the original French, with two volumes bound in one.This novel follows orphan Remi Barberin as he is sold to a street musician and journeys to Paris, Toulouse, and Fontainebleau, detailing his relationships with the people he meets on his journey. The novel was reportedly inspired by the Italian street musicians of the nineteenth century, in particular the harpists from Viggiano, Basilicata.With numerous vignette illustrations from Loewitz.The work of Hector Malot, a French author who started his career in law before turning to literature.
