This copy is illustrated by Herbert Tauss. The Call, is in the form of a fictionalised biography with letters and excerpts from David Treadup's journal who is an American Protestant missionary in China during the first half of the twentieth century. John Hersey was an American writer and journalist and considered one of the earliest practitioners of New Journalism and has signed this copy. There is a map to the rear and three double page colour plates. Collated, complete. In the publisher's original decorative morocco binding. Externally, very smart. The author has signed the front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound with bright clean pages.
