WITH THE ERRATA SLIP, and several relevant cuttings loosely inserted. This is the first and most important of the renowned Abbey sales. The catalogue (of which this is the best issue) lists 694 lots, with introduction and indexes of books on vellum, binders, booksellers, previous owners and armorial bindings. An unillustrated issue was produced in conventional Sotheby wrappers.

Sotheby's,, 1965[-70]. 6 vols., 8vo., with (in Part 5) numerous coloured and monochrome facsimiles of illustrations and bindings (a number folding and many full-page), small neat annotation on front cover of Part 1; original printed wrappers, all very good, bright, clean copies. The Abbey Collection, formed over more than fifteen years, ranked as one of the finest assemblies of illustrated printed books and fine bindings (especially British and French) in the world. It was sold progressively from 1965 onwards following Abbey's death. Most parts were issued in both Illustrated and Unillustrated Issues. The present series comprises: Part 1: 21-23 June 1965; Part 2: 14-16 November 1966; Part 3: 19-21 June 1967; Part 4: 6 November 1967; Part 5: 2 June 1970; Part 6: 19 October 1970.
