The damage was extensive necessitating some months under repair. At the outbreak of WW2 MacAndrew offered his yacht to the Royal Navy and with two sailing friends, retired Surgeon Rear-Admiral John Muir and Charles Turner, they became respectively Sub-Lt. MacAndrew RNVR, Sub-Lt. Muir RNVR and Sub-Lt. Turner, RNVR of the Royal Naval Patrol Service vessel HM Yacht Campeador, under the command of Commander C. E.
