An auction catalog presenting part III of a 1938 auction of material from the collection of William Randolph Hearst. This includes the Emancipation Proclamation, fine bindings, autographs of presidents of the United States, ornithological books by John Gould, the Kelmscott Chaucer, 15th century illuminated manuscripts, fine old maps, drawings by Rackham and others, etc. Hearst began selling part of his vast collection in 1937, with sales held throughout the next several years. William Randolph Hearst was a noted 19th and 20th century newspaper publisher, perhaps notably creating 'yellow journalism,' that often swayed public opinion toward preferred political aims. VERY GOOD condition. General uneven toning and fading to the wraps. Minor soiling. Some creasing, minor chipping and tearing along the extremities. Very Good .
