Hardcover, bound in red cloth titled and decorated in gilt on the spine with a gilt vignette of Rip Van Winkle and his dog illustrating the covers. The covers are further decorated with gilt rules and blind stamped formal decorations. All edges are gilt. The covers are rubbed and soiled with wear and chipping to the corners and head and tail of the spine. 465 pages, illustrated with a portrait frontispiece, a pictorial title page, 4 textual engravings and 6 full-page plates by F.O.C. Darley. There is foxing throughout with dampstaining to the edges and corners of several pages. Good.
