There is some offsetting from the plates to the text pages & from the text pages to the verso of the plates. Good. First edition with these illustrations. There is one plate for each of the 69 livraisons. Each plate is a colored wood engraving. The first twelve are by Andre Gill. The remainder are by Regamey. The decorative borders on each page of text are by Grasset. The text for "La Vie de Boheme" [first published 1847-49] is on pages 1-303. This is followed by "Le Pays Latin" [first published 1851] on pages 305-501 and "Le Souper des Funerailles" [first published posthumously 1873] on pages 502-550. French novelist and poet Henri Murger [1822-1861] is best known as the author of "La Vie Boheme", the basis of Puccini's and Leoncavallo's operas, both titled "La Boheme". Murger's novel was drawn from his own experiences as a desperately poor writer living in a Paris attic. He was a member of a loose club of friends who called themselves "the water drinkers" because they could not afford wine. Good .
