The spine title is rubbed off and there is a slight impression on the spine. Otherwise very good and clean. "This novel is a fantasy; the story it tells is unconstrained by the plausible or the possible. The green lacquer pavilion of the title is seemingly a portal between England and the Orient, although this is an Orient of unusual dimension in that no matter how far one journeys from the pavilion it is always close at hand. The page prior to the half-title bears a presentation from the publisher, Georg Muller, with the presentee's name partially removed. A somewhat erotic tale with commensurate illustrations. The corners and head and tail are worn, particularly the tail. There is some acid staiining where the leather turn-ins touch the endpapers. A short crack at the front bottom hinge. Quite nice and clean inside. Beautiful paper. A new translation by P. R. Stephenson. This edition is limited to five hundred and fifty copies printed on Arnold's Handmade paper. This is copy number 456.Lovely typography, in Poliphilus Type and printed in London by Botolph. The colophon page is shown in the pictures. Ill.: Norman Lindsay. Very good .
