(SANDBERG). CALDER, Alexander
Handwritten letter signed (1965) by 'Sandy' to 'Dear Willi', Willem Sandberg.
Written with marker pen on writing paper, one side only. 27 x 21 cm. Dated 'Saché/ I. et L./ France/ 17 Feb. 65'. 13 lines. Signed 'Cordially/ Sandy'. Twice folded. Letter of the great sculptor Alexander Calder (1898-1976), born in the USA but living in the department Indre et Loire ('I. et L.') in France, to Willem Sandberg, who at this time had retired from his tenure as director of the Stedelijk Museum. It's about two of Calder's sculptures that Sandberg possibly was to 'have', though it's unclear where this 'have' would be. The "Guichet" may be destined for the Lincoln Centre, but 'I might even send you the "Guillotine pour huit" which was in the Guggenheim...' However, the Guillotine is now in the Musée LaM in Lille.
