Red linen hardcover with stamped decoration and title in gold and black. The Celtic decoration is repeated on the back in blind-stamped form. Gilded on all edges. The spine is discoloured and the front board shows a water stain on top. The contents are lightly foxed an the top of the first few pages show some staining due to water damage. 30,5 x 42 cm, [8] 1-85 pp. With nine full-page engravings after illustrations of Gustave Doré, all protected by tissue guard. l Elaine is part of a cycle of twelve narrative poems, called Idylls of the King by the British poet Alfred Tennyson ( 1809-1892).
