A bust-length portrait of Johannes Crellius at age 43. He is bearded and wears a toga. A laudatory poem in Latin below the oval image. Engraving on hand laid paper, sheet size 299 x 193 mm., platemark 229 x 154 mm. Engraving attributed to Lambert Visscher, published c. 1643-1691 (Visscher's active working period). Lambert Visscher (Haarlem 1633-1690 or after, Rome?) was a Dutch engraver and draftsperson. He was the brother of accomplished engravers Johannes and Cornelis Visscher II. He wa a student of Pieter Soutman. In 1677 he worked in Florence with Cornelis Bloemaert II. In good condition, the margins quite discoloured and with some creases.
