Portrait of a richly dressed lady, holding a jewelled necklace on her lap. Steel engraving on wove paper, sheet size 220 x 170 mm. Engraved by Albert Henry Payner after Edmund Thomas Parris, published in 1847. Albert Henry Payne (London 1812-1902 Leipzig) was a steel engraver, painter and illustrator. He was English, but lived in Leipzig from 1839 onward. Edmund Thomas Parris (1793-1873) was an English painter of history scenes, portraits, panoramas. He was also active as a book illustrator, designer and art restorer. He was appointed history painter to Queen Adelaide, Queen Consort of William IV, and painted Queen Victoria's coronation in 1838 and the Duke of Wellington's funeral in 1852. In very good condition.
