He graduated on the interdisciplinary study The Harp in the Middle Ages: The Symbolism of a Musical Instrument. Dr van Schaik. who was formely lecturer in Ancient and Medieval Music at Utrecht University, is now Senior Research Fellow in Music Archaeology and chair of the Dutch Study Group on Music Archeaology.
