Of Janus de Bisschop, citizen of the city of Veere on the island of Walcheren, nothing is known. He dedicated this collection to Cornelius Kien, counsel of the VOC in Zeeland. Bisschop was tutor to his son: "Miserum adolescentem, qui talem nactus sit praeceptorem! Nihil ineptius vidi ista praefatione, nisi Epistolam, quae sequitur (etc.)." (Hofmann Peerlkamp, p.444) .
