Diamara Khodymchuk (1925 - ?), writing under the pseudonyms Dima, Diamara Komilevska, and Karpo Kropyva, was a Ukrainian Author, playwright, actress, and wife of Leonid Poltava (1921 - 1990), pseudonym for Leonid Parhomovych - poet, playwright, a leading figure of the RKU (Reichskommissariat Ukraine) - the civilian occupation regime in German-occupied Ukraine, and later - a journalist for the radios "Liberty" and "Voice of America." After spending time in a forced labor camp in Germany and then living and studying in Paris in the 1940s and 1950s, she moved with her family to New York in 1959. Among her many plays, novels, and children's books - her current one, according to a short publisher's note , had won the award of the United Ukrainian-American Rrelief Committee. Very good .

Written in Behalf of Treasuries of Order Eastern Star Chapters;" 7 3/4 x 5 1/4; pp. [1], 4-9; beige, card stock wraps, printed in black; text block tied to wraps with a decorative string; light age-toning and a bit of wear to tips of spine; rubbed spots to back wrap; in about very good condition. Leaflet - 6 x 5; pp. [4]; light, horizontal crease line; small manuscript note by the editor to upper margin of pp. 1; very good or better condition. Ellen "Ella" Augusta Bigelow (1849 - 1917) was an author, historian, and editor of "Mizpah" journal. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and wrote her current playlet as an "entertainment of financial result beneficial to our Chapter." The first page announced that all guests and members were advised to bring their pocket-books, as mystery-prize boxes, colored eggs with written fortunes, boxes of candy, etc. would be offered at ten cent apiece. The small leaflet, with an explanatory manuscript note by the editor, was a supplement to another one-acter by Bigelow, which she completed in 1899. Very good .

First edition thus; 7 x 4 3/4; pp. [3], VI-XI, [2], 2-87; stapled, beige, pictorial wraps; illustrated with portrait frontis and black & white drawings at the beginning of each chapter; wraps a bit fragile with several small chips to tips of spine and edges; uniform age-toning to leaves; in good to very good condition. A beautiful Ukrainian edition of Moliere's "Tartuffe," it was translated by satirist, playwright, translator, educator, and poet Volodymyr Samiilenko (1864 - 1925), known in the literary circles under the pseudonym Syvenky. The introduction to the work was written by Mykola Voronyi (1871 - 1938) - political activist, educator, author, poet, and actor. He founded the Ukrainian National Theater in 1917 and co-founded the Central Council of Ukraine (also known as the Central Rada of Ukraine) - the All-Ukrainian council, which united the cultural, political, and professional organizations of the Ukrainian People's Republic. Accused of being a militarist, Voronyi was executed by the NKVD in 1938. Very good .
