ECKERT, HARALD
Harald Eckert geb. 1.VIII.1903. gefallen am 22.I.1942. (Poetry and letters printed in diazotype).
No place, self published, no date (1942?). 25 x 18 cm. Boards in botanical Japanese paper. 47 leaves printed in diazotype (Ozalid). Text on recto only. With 3 original photographs of the author (one a photo of a painting). Binding a bit yellowed. Probably printed privately, and clandestinely, in Germany by relatives of the author, a lawyer who had to fight in the war and died in Ukraine. Contains poems and fragments of letters about fighting at the front. Eckert in his letters mentions three authors, Ernst Jünger and his brother Friedrich Georg Jünger, and Stefan George. One receives an interesting view of an intelligent soldier’s thoughts while fighting for his Nazi country. A somewhat later book, titled "Aus Briefen an seine Frau und an die Freunde. Gedichte" was privately published in München (1943). Printed in blueprint (blue on grey) in reproduction of a handwriting reminiscent of Stefan George's. Not in Worldcat.

WOODBURYTYPE (PHOTOGLYPTIE). GOUPIL, PETIT, MULNIER
Auguste NÉLATON, Gilbert RANDON, Charles SÉCHAN & Daniel VIERGE. 4 photos from the Galerie Contemporaine des Illustrations Françaises.
Paris, Galerie Contemporaine des Illustrations Françaises, about 1880. Plates measuring ca. 23 x 18 cm, pasted on cardboard and matted, passepartouts ca. 45 x 35 cm. Original woodburytypes with a loose biography on text paper. Woodburytype (known as Photoglyptie in France) was a rare vintage method of reprinting photographs with all subtle middle-tones. Also, unlike photography, the picture doesn't age. A woodburytype looks like it did in the 19th century, no discoloring. The technique was used between 1864 until about 1900, when cheaper (but not better) ways of photo were more readily available. These portraits of 4 then famous Frenchmen are in excellent condition. Nélaton was photographed by Pierre Petit, Morin by Carjat. Ranchon and Vierge by Ferdinand Mulnier, Séchan by Goupil & Cie.
