LOCKRAN, Gerry
Smiles and Tears. (Printed in 50 copies).
Leicester, Waddling Duck Press, 1983. Original wrappers. 12 p. Printed in 50 copies by Toni Savage. 1st edition. Fine. One of the very few publications of the Waddling Duck Press, but one of very many by Toni Savage (1929-1994), who started out as an opera singer, but later became the central figure in the feverish margin printing activities in Leicester. Many cute little magazines were produced, poetry broadsides and posters, 'street literature' and many funny little books. Gerry Lockran (1942-1987) was a well-known blues singer and guitarist, until a heart attack left him unable to use his right hand. In his last years he tried to express his creativity in the form of photography and poetry, until another heart attack killed him. This is his only poetry collection, consisting of three moving poems. Attached is a small edition of the Waddling Duck Press, a poem by Carol Talbot 'Without Security, where are we?'. Waddling Duck Briefs No. 3, 1983. One-sided sheet of green paper with a poem and a wood engraving of a Great Tit (Parus maior).
