Die Buecher der namenlosen Liebe. Neue Gesammt-Ausgabe.
Self-published, 1924. 16,5 x 12 cm. Cloth with dust jacket and slipcase. 488 p. Fine copy complete with the often missing original green unprinted dust jacket. The revised, definitive edition of the first six of SAGITTA'S BUECHER DER NAMENLOSEN LIEBE ('Sagitta's Books of Nameless Love'). One of 2000 copies, numbered (possibly by the author himself!) both on the printed ticket of the slipcase and in the book. The preface recounts the history of Mackay's mighty one-man's fight with homophobia. Of the seven book publications under Mackay's pseudonym Sagitta during his lifetime (1864-1933) this is the sixth: SAGITTA 06 (1924).

SAGITTA (=JOHN HENRY MACKAY)
Die Buecher der namenlosen Liebe. Gesammtausgabe. Mit einer Einleitung: Die Geschichte eines Kampfes um die namenlose Liebe.
Paris, Self-published, 1913. 4to. Rebound in cloth-backed marbled boards. 272 p. Printed in 1000 numbered copies. First collected edition. A little foxing, otherwise fine. Contains all six 'Books of the Nameless Love', of which the first two had been published in 1906, but were banned in 1909. Vol. III and IV (the novel 'Fenny Skaller' and the Venetian play 'Ueber die Stufen von Marmor') were written about 1906, but only first published in this edition. Vol. V was brought out in 1909, and Vol. VI is the pamphlet published in 1908 'Gehoer! - Nur einen Augenblick! Ein Schrei.', ('Listen! - Just a moment! A shout') against the Eulenburg scandal. With a twenty-page history of Mackays efforts as a preface for this first collected edition. No publisher is mentioned, only 'Paris' which is probably just a mask. Of the seven book publications under Mackay's pseudonym Sagitta during his life (1864-1933) this is the fifth: SAGITTA 05 (1913). Nice copy hardbound with attractive marbled boards.

SAGITTA (= JOHN HENRY MACKAY)
Der Puppenjunge. Die geschichte einer namenlose Liebe aus der Friedrichstrasse.
'Privat-Ausgabe' (self-published), 1926. Gilt cloth with (battered) slipcase. 368 p. Printed in 2000 numbered copies, numbered in ink both on the printed ticket on the slipcase and in the book, possibly by Mackay himself. First edition. Spine discolored, otherwise in fine condition. Copy with printed pink slip pasted on first page of the Friedrich Radszuweit Verlag in Berlin. Original German first edition (1926) of the seventh and last of Sagitta's BŁcher der namenlosen Liebe ('Sagitta's Books of Nameless Love') about a country boy selling his body in Berlin and a self-denying young man who loves him. A poignant, intense novel and the very first one written with insight and without ridicule about male prostitution. Shocking for its title alone, and taboo when it was published. Probably part of the edition was bought by Radszuweit, a publisher specializing in homo-erotic books and periodicals. Der Puppenjunge was offered in book lists in Radszuweit's magazines. This publisher's stock was raided and destroyed by the nazis in the early 1930's.
