ANNUNZIO, GABRIELE D'
Two autograph postcards to Dante translator J.K. Rensburg.
1. 13,2 x 8,5 cm. Obv.: Text 'Le scrivero appena giunto' ('I will write you when I have arrived'). Signed 'd'Ann'. Address 'J.K. Rensburg/ Leesmuseum/ Amsterdam/ l'Olanda'. 10 centesimi brown stamp postmarked 'Venezia Ferrovia' 13 III 1921. Rev.: Photo of D'Annunzio in uniform with printed signature. 2. 13,8 x 8,8 cm. Obv. text: 'Faccio capitale su di lei.' ('I'm counting on you'), signed 'd'A.' Address 'Sr J.K. Rensburg/ Leesmuseum/ Amsterdam/ Olanda.' Two 20 cts stamps with unclear postmark (possibly 'Firenze' and '21') . Rev.: Picture of a church in Florence with a citation by Carducci, a bit soiled by postmark ink. Mysterious correspondence! J.K. Rensburg (1870-1943) was an eccentric Dutch writer and translator (a.o. Dante and Boccaccio). D'Annunzio, not only an author, but also a politician, in the first weeks of 1921 had to retire from his political adventures in Fiume, the city that was annexed by the Italians in 1919. 1921 also saw the festivities of the 600th anniversary of Dante's death. However, nothing is known about any contact between the two authors.
