Paris, Depot de Guerre. 1857. No Binding. Book, A 1857 folding pocket map of Paris engraved by Armand Joseph Lallemand (1810-1887), issued by the Depot de Guerre (90x63 cm). The map covers central Paris within the Thiers Wall (enclosure constructed between 1841 and 1846). The city is shown at the very beginning of the Haussmann's renovation. Indexes in the lower left and upper right. At the bottom with vignette views of The Tuilleries and Pont Neuf. Districts, perimeter forts, and the Thiers Wall are highlighted in different colour. The map is folded as a booklet in dark green boards with engraved title label 'Nouveau Plan de Paris, ou Guide des Etrangers' with picture of a Paris' building and text in lower margin: 'A Paris chez LALLEMAND Rue des Poitevins No. 6', and housed in a dark green marbled slipcase with red title label on one side edge with gilt title 'Plan de Paris'. (verso map with 2 closed tears and minor defects on some crossing folds, slipcase bit wrinkled, but overall in fine condition). Near Fine.
