Printed by A. Ward and sold by W. Tesseyman, J.Todd, H. Sotheran, T. Wilson, N. Frobisher and R. Spence, York, 1783, second edition, with additions. Full leather binding, 5 raised bands to spine. Spine has been rebacked with a new black leather patch with gilt lettering to compartment two. 7ins x 4.25ins, new endpapers, x, 136pp plus 14 folding plates as listed. The last plate has extensive old tape repairs to the verso. Toning and light foxing to text and plates but overall a VG well preserved copy.

Arteries of Commerce - Grand Union Canal
the Waterways Museum, Stoke Breune, nd. This is a reproduction of an earlier publication promoting the industrial use of the Grand Union and probably originally printed in the 40's/50's. Paperback. Laminated, illustrated card covers. 11.25ins x 8.5ins, 121pp. The first 77pp mainly comprise small scale diagrammatic maps of the canal which occupy 2/3rds of the right hand page with canal related businesses being noted in the remaining third. The opposite page is an advertisement. After page 77 there is a list of canal boat owners but most pages are advertisements. These advertisements have their own appeal, being period in flavour, and often of businesses now defunct. Covers somewhat yellowed. G+.

The Beaumont Collection of Lordships of Manors in the counties of Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk (auction catalogue)
C.M. Stanford & Son, Colchester and Strutt & Parker, London, 1954. Original card covers with front cover illustrated. 11.5ins x 8.75ins, 46pp, stapled. Foreword by James Wentworth Day. This is the auction catalogue for the sale of 27 Lordships of Manors. For each manor there is a history of the descent of the title and a record of whatever court rolls, court books, minute books, rentals, quit books, etc that are to passed on with the title. There are also references to ""customs"", wayleaves and sources of income as appropriate. The manors are Layer Bretton, Wivenhoe, Great Bromley, Crepping Hall, East Donyland, Fordham Hall, Goldingtons, Le Howe, Martells Hall, Overhall and Netherhall, Rivenhall Hall, Tollesbury Hall, Blamsters Hall and Great Henny - all in Essex. Akenham, Beaumonds in Lindsey, Glemsford, Callis Metholds and Wimbolds, Cokfield Hall, Earls Hall, Haughley, Stowmarket in Suffolk. Ashwelthorpe and Wreningham, Fundenhall with Hapton, Bressingham Priory, Mills on the Moor with Great Fransham and Circum cum Willcocks, Norfolk. There is an index of family names to the inside rear cover. Staples have rusted so that the cover is loose. The covers are a little grubby but overall this a G+ example of a scarce and interesting item.

Nb the first issue of volume three starts with a statement that publication has resumed after a pause of fve months. All three volumes have scattered light foxing and occasional browning to pages. Vol 1 is worn to to the top front corner. Volume 3, the leather of the spine is scuffed. However, overall a VG set of a scarce work.

Contemporary half leather binding with marbled boards. 8.75ins x 5.5ins, xvi, 688pp including 56 tissue guarded illustrations (referred to as embellishments). Illustrations all present. Hinges have been strengthed with tape (same colour as endpapers). Contents VG. Externally, corners rubbed and worn. Scratch to front board and some general scuffing but overall a good sound attractive copy. The original spine appears to have been relaid some time ago - but there is considerable loss of leather to the left hand side of the spine. Also the label is lacking from compartment two and only the blind stamped titling remains. Contents VG. A strong and servicable reference copy but not a collectors copy.
