Ghost-Stories; (Collected with a Particular View to Counteract the Vulgar Belief in Ghosts and Apparitions, and to Promote a Rational Estimate of the Nature of Phenomena Commonly Considered As Supernatural).
London: R. Ackermann, Repository of Arts, 101 Strand, 1823. First edition, 12mo., pp.xx,292, 6 hand-coloured aquatints, full diced calf, raised bands, gilt decoration in compartments; professionally recased, small (2cm) but deep indentation to back board, two bookplates to endpapers, some light foxing, offsetting from plates, some (mostly light) water-staining to lower margins - an acceptable copy of a rare title. The six charming coloured aquatints are not attributed although it is known that Ackermann employed some of the finest painters of his time. William Henry Pyne, Augustus Charles Pugin, Thomas Uwins, John Gendall and Thomas Rowlandson are all associated with Ackermann and these are very much after the style of the latter.
