A French journal of humor, relying heavily on satirical and comic art, with some text, founded in 1894 and capitalizing on anti-government sentiment in France to lampoon politicians and other figures. This issue with a color front cover by C. Leandre; a rear comic by de Jeanniot; interior work by de Cardona, Henri de Gousse, Ricardo Flores, de Gerbault and others. GOOD condition. Minor to moderate uneven toning to the covers. A few small chips and tears along the extremities and corners. Notation in pencil on the upper front cover. Good .

Crickmore, depicting paintings by C. Stanfield. This includes The Battle of Trafalgar; Entrance to the Zuyder See; The Giudecca, Venice; Lake of Como. GOOD condition. Heavy toning to the wraps, with offsetting, scattered staining and some soiling. Wrapper extremities chipped, with some tears and minor loss. Some scuffing. General toning and minor soiling to the etchings. Good .

No Place, Greenwich Workshop, 1990. Limited. Unbound. Folio of 6 lithograph prints reproduced from the original paintings of Bev Doolittle. #4139 of an edition of 25,000. Lettered a through f, with f bearing the artist's signature in pencil. Lithographs brown and white, with paper guards between each, housed in a gray folder decorated on the front in gilt. Houses in a large oblong clamshell style case, bound in brown cloth. This is housed in original Styrofoam and shipping box, which is also numbered with the edition. Each lithograph measures 15 by 10 ¼ inches. With original documentation slip tipped in, discussing the artist and the prints. Conceived of as a large work of 24 images, these are the first six of the series, depicting brown and white horses that blend into the background. Bev Doolittle is a California based artist, known for her images depicting nature and the American West. Hide and Seek is perhaps one of her best known works. Lithographs in FINE condition, with no visible wear. Light bumping along the paper folder extremities. Cloth case with some minor general fading and minor rubbing. Fine .

All presumably disbound from books, and unevenly cropped along all margins. A collection of 35 illustrated plates by Gustave Dore, most from his illustrations of the Rime of the Ancient Mariner, although a few are from other undetermined works. GOOD condition. Margins a bit unevenly cropped. Varying amounts of foxing to the plates, some with none, some with more moderate foxing. All a bit toned. Minor soiling. Each plate unfortunately numbered in ink at the upper left corners and reverse, spanning 2-36. Most with a bit of wear along the edges. Good .

Vivid depiction of a landing party fighting with natives on Vanuatu in the Pacific, with men in landing boats firing upon a mob of natives armed with spears and rocks. Notable is the depiction of Captain Cook aiming his gun at the crowd. Piece measures 19 inches long by 9 ¾ inches tall. From a Dutch language edition of Cook's travels, plate number LV as indicated at the top right. In FAIR/GOOD condition. A 1 by 3 ½ inch rectangle missing from the upper right margin, with a 4 inch jagged tear also at the upper right, affecting the illustration. This has been repaired, somewhat crudely, on the rear, by a previous owner. Vertical fold crease near the right edge. Minor general soiling and darkening to the piece, with a small faint dampstain in the center right margin. Faint browning/dampstain along the left margin, slightly affecting the illustration. Minor chipping and tearing at the center left edge. Lower left corner rounded. Fair .

Envelope measures approximately 9 ½ by 6 ¾ inches. Paper cuts are loosely laid in between sheets of tissue type paper, and are cut out of different colored paper. All depict different views of what is presumed to be the Great Wall of China. Folder in GOOD condition. Some browning and wrinkling to the folder. Rear of folder with spotting and minor staining. Minor soiling. Very light wear to the paper cuts themselves. Good .

An approximate 14 by 12 inch color lithograph titled 'Winter Sport.' A depiction of two boys pulling a sled through the snow, upon which a girl with a riding crop/whip rides. Two other girls look on from the background. Most likely removed from a book. Mounted on the cover of a book (an old scrapbook). In GOOD condition. Moderate uneven browning to the paper, with minor soiling. Extremities chipped and worn, with several largish tears along the right edge, as well as some other smaller tears along the other edges. Extensive old tape repairs to the reverse along the right edge. The piece has detached somewhat from the backing along the bottom and sides. Small area of loss at the upper left corner, corresponding with a tear. Good .

A short work introducing the Reproduction Series from Harvard, citing a need and desire to offer various rare or interesting illustrations to the public. Hofer discusses the use of the collotype process in reproducing the illustrations, as well as the hand-coloring of the illustrations. Included in this piece are three collotype reproduced pieces: a sculptor's drawing for a frieze by Pietro di Martino titled 'Lombardo;" a hand-colored piece titled ' Regra Statutos..da Ordem de Santiago' from Portugal, Herman de Kempis, 1509 (hand colored as the original was done, with noted imperfections); a hand-colored aquatint study of a fruit drawn by Turpin and engraved by Bouquet, from France ca. 1800. In GOOD to VERY GOOD condition with light creasing, fading and offsetting to the covers. Minor soiling. Interior clean and solid. Good .
