Presumed Irish edition of the popular English cookbook "A New System of Domestic Cookery," written by Maria Eliza Ketelby Rundell, and originally published in 1805. The book contains advice on shopping for food, as well recipes and tips for preparing meat, pork, poultry, fish, etc. as well as preserving items, pies, and cooking for the sick. FAIR condition. Book rebacked at some point, preserving the original paper pastedowns on the covers. These are very heavily worn, with chipping, loss, scuffing, fading, soiling and some staining. Extremities bumped and scuffed. Extensive, but faint, pink dampstaining to the pages up to page 21 (decreasing in size nearer to page 21). Uneven toning throughout. Minor scattered soiling and staining. Lower corner of the first plate torn off; partial upper margin of the title page torn off; lower corner, with loss of text, torn off on leaf 29/30. Several owner's signatures and stamps present. Fair .

While the work indicates a larger cookbook was to follow, no record of it appears in OCLC records. GOOD+ condition. Minor soiling and edgewear. Small tear and associated creasing to the center rear fore edge. Good .

Presumably a reworking of the popular Buckeye Cookery cookbook, written by Estelle Woods Wilcox. Wilcox graduated from college in 1870, giving a speech on women's suffrage, and published Buckeye Cookery in 1876, as a fundraiser for a church. The popularity of the cookbook grew and went through several editions. Wilcox established the magazine, the Housekeeper, that focused on aspects of managing a household, while also advocating for women to work outside their homes. This book focuses on bread making and recipes for bread, as well as tea cakes, griddle cakes, layer cakes, beverages including coffee and tea, etc. Several handwritten recipes are written in the front and back of the book. GOOD condition. Heavy uneven fading to the covers, with heavy creasing, scuffing, spotting and staining. Some soiling and edgewear. Heavy toning to the text block. Some staining to the endpapers from the covers. Good .
