[Brooks, Catherine]
The Complete English Cook
No Place, No publisher. Hard Cover. Publisher, place and date LACKING (note, this is due to title page being MISSING), although an ad for another book being published indicates this was published/printed by J. Cooke in Pater-Noster Row. London: Perhaps circa 1762. The ad in the rear of the book advertises for a book being published "This Day," and titled, "The Polite Tutoress: Or, Young Lady's Instructor." ESTC record N12395 indicates this was published in 1761 (although presumably erroneously attributed to printer J. Coote, as the record notes). Copies of the third and fourth edition of this work scanned online give a different book ad in the rear. Bound in paper covered boards with a leather spine. Pagination runs 5-132, with title page and any other pages prior to page 5 MISSING. This includes the plate mentioned in ESTC records. Pages 101-103 with diagrams outlining the planning of dishes for various courses of meals. A cookbook written by Catherine Brooks providing recipes for a variety of meals, meats, candying, pudding, etc. Also present is a section of remedies for various ailments and a section on washing muslin cloth via clear starching.
