Mrs. Frazer
The Practice of Cookery, Pastry, Confectionary, Pickling, and Preserving. With Directions for Choosing Provisions, Trussing Poultry, Etc.
Edinburgh, Printed for Peter Hill by J. Ruthven and Sons, 1800. Full Leather. Third edition, so stated, revised and enlarged. Full calf leather. Xvi, 270 pp. With two plates. A cookbook for a variety of dishes, meals, and sides, and including various suggestions for general cookery concerns. With an appendix featuring recipes for wine and cordials, as well as tips on carving. Mrs. Frazer was a student of the noted cook, and cookbook writer, Susannah MacIver, and took over her school when she died. This cookbook is essentially an updated and revised version of MacIver's work. POOR/FAIR condition. Rear cover DETACHED along the rear hinge. Heavy scuffing and wear to the covers, with many small cuts in the leather on the upper front cover (maybe this was used as a cutting board). Small white area of staining to the front cover. Spine extremely scuffed and worn, with leather backstrip missing from the head of the spine. Text block solid, with moderate toning, scattered soiling and staining throughout. A few signatures present on the inside front cover. Overall a very worn example of this work. Poor .
