No Place, Crew of the S.S. Marine Tiger, Publishers, 1948. Unbound. No place (somewhere in the Atlantic?): 1948. Menu measures 11 by 7 inches. Printed on one side only, with a color illustration of an eagle, bell and US flag at the top left. Issued for voyage #37, eastbound, dinner fare featured. The newspaper, the Tiger Rag, measures 8 ½ by 11 inches and is two leaves, stapled at the top left corner. Poor print quality. Newsletter contains ship procedures, international news, a brief biography of the ship and a summary of the various student groups aboard. The S.S. Marine Tiger was originally built at the Kaiser Shipyards in California in 1944, intended to be a troop ship. It ran from 1944 to 1946, and transported Italian prisoners of war from Naples to Los Angeles. It was placed in the reserve fleet in 1946, and eventually became a container ship before being scrapped in 1973. Both pieces in GOOD condition with some toning to the menu and heavy toning to the newsletter. Minor soiling and curling at the corners. Faint horizontal fold creases to the newsletter. Good .

Mcintosh College Book of Photographs. Dover, New Hampshire

No Place, No publisher. Hard Cover. Presumed produced by McIntosh College in Dover, New Hampshire, circa 1937. Original glossy photographs of various sizes housed in a repurposed 1936 Strathmore (paper) promotional handbook. Paper covered boards with black paper leaves. 37 photographs present. It appears this book was assembled by McIntosh College in order to promote the college and its programs. The majority of students depicted are young women, and the various students (female or male) are depicted attending various classes such as dictation, etc. The photos also show women operating office machines and working in the assembling departing of McIntosh's publishing company. The last leaf has three smaller photos depicting the dorm life for women. Other photos in the book depict various business buildings around Dover, NH, indicating that those businesses hire McIntosh graduates. Many of the photos are accompanied by typed labels. It appears some photos have been removed and a few pages are empty. McIntosh College was founded in 1896 as the Dover Business College. David McIntosh bought it in 1902 and renamed it. The college closed in 2009. GOOD condition. Some fading, soiling, staining and scuffing to the covers. Photos are well done. A few are loose. Good .

Modern Health Crusader. National Tuberculosis Association Pinback

Coshocton, OH, American Artworks, Producer. Unbound. no date, presumed circa 1920s. Just over ¾ inch in diameter. Clasping pin style back. A pinback presumably given to children as part of the Modern Health Crusade originated by the National Association for the Study and Prevention of Tuberculosis in 1915. The program expanded in the 1920s to cover various aspects of health and hygiene in schools, using a chivalry based system for advancement based on accomplishment. The red S present on the lower portion of the pinback may indicate this was given to a squire. National Tuberculosis Association printed on the reverse. VERY GOOD condition. Minor toning and rubbing, with some scuffs and bumps on the lip of the curl. Some rusting to the pin. Very Good .

No Place, No publisher. Unbound. Mr. Jacob M. Currier Handwritten Log of Lumber Delivered in his behalf. No publisher, place or date. Believed Dover, New Hampshire, late 1700s. Single sheet, approximately 7 by 5 inches. A short list of lumber delivered for "Mr. Currier," including what appears to be joints to Rogers and Patten. Research indicates they built brick buildings in Dover along the town landing in the early 1800s, and it's possible this was for something else they were building prior to those. Also listed is bridge plank to "Cap Wingate," although it is not clear which Captain Wingate this was. Rogers and Patten are mentioned two other times on this slip, along with price of merchandise. VERY GOOD condition. Minor wrinkling and toning. A few creases. Minor fraying along the right edge. Very Good .

A notice to sailors that the light at Long Wharf in New Haven, CT was to be discontinued under the authority of the Treasury under the advisement of the Light-house Board. It appears an iron post was erected in 1854, and its use was discontinued from 1859 to 1861. A tower was eventually built, and is still in operation today. GOOD+ condition. Minor wrinkling, toning and edgewear. Good .

Gainesville, FL, Pepper Publishing and Printing Co, 1916. Unbound. Single sheet, 18 by 10 inches, folded to 3 3/8 by 6 inches, with printing on what is essentially six panels. Several black and white photos present, including several of the steamboat Hiawatha. A booklet promoting steamboat trips on the Ocklawaha River in Florida, a narrow twisting river that required specially designed steamboats for its navigation. Presumably started by Hubbard L. Hart, the Ocklawaha Steamboat Company was probably the last iteration of the original company that was founded in 1865. Hart ran steamboats for the Confederacy during the Civil War, helping to avoid Union blockades. The steamboats disappeared by the 1920s, replaced by motor powered boats. GOOD condition. General toning, some spotting and staining to the piece. Minor splitting along some of the folds. Good .

Pituffik Space Base (Formerly Thule Air Base) Archive of 15 Photos Documenting the Construction of the Temporary Port of Thule. Circa 1951

No Place, No publisher. Unbound. 8 by 10 inch glossy photos. No publisher, place or date. The photographs are loosely contained in a manila folder with the name of Colonel L.B. de Long typed on it. Affixed to the interior is a copy of a letter addressed to someone working for an insurance company, dated September 9, 1952. This letter suggests meeting a John Mead and Colonel L.B. deLong who apparently handled "lots of interesting towage and construction projects in Alaska, Greenland [etc.]." The photographs are primarily shots of the pier that would make the Port of Thule, being constructed, depicting metal pipes, platforms, etc. with some icebergs visible, as well as Dundas Mountain in the background. One shot depicts two former Navy vessels, which may have been used as temporary housing for workers. They are the USNS General Stuart Heintzelman and the USNS General A W Greely. One photo depicts a ship moored, and another depicts a ship just offshore. Pituffik Space Base (Thule Air Base) was originally built in 1951 and is the northernmost US military installation. It has gained more interest recently due to a US president's inane obsession with Greenland. The website icyseas . org indicates that the Port of Thule is the northernmost deep water port in the world and was constructed in three weeks. It was meant to be a temporary port but is still in use today. It also appears from that website, that the pier depicted in these photos is sometimes referred to as the deLong Pier. These are from an executive of a very large international insurance firm (name of owner and firm withheld for privacy). The owner was a highly placed executive in an insurance company and travelled throughout the world extensively. They were active in politics through donations and fundraising, and it appears their family was friendly with the Roosevelts, especially Eleanor Roosevelt. The previous owner's work for the insurance company led them to meet with various heads of state worldwide, including US government officials. Some of the people associated with this firm were also involved in World War II activities, including financing the Flying Tigers in China, as well as work for the OSS, using knowledge gained from insurance work. While we have not found any direct connection to intelligence work by this owner, their ties to those who did are strong. Photos in VERY GOOD condition with minor toning and general curling. Very Good .
