The other promotes an elephant tannery in Waterbury, Vermont, touting their choice Oak Leather for reins, bridles, etc. and their delivery terms. Little could be found about the company or their use of elephant hides. The postcard is addressed to Smith, Bourn and Co. of Hartford, Connecticut, which appeared to be a harness and saddlery company. GOOD+ condition. Paper toned. Mailing cancellations on the address side. Good .

Goldish colored metal, although very tarnished or worn on the obverse to a dull brown. Presumably commemorative medal celebrating the life of inventor Elias Howe Jr. best known for his sewing machine. Text along the edge of the medal reads "Elias Howe Jr. Inventor and Maker. New York." GOOD condition. Obverse very worn, being very brown, darkened and tarnished. Reverse less so, with a few areas of discoloration and a large area in the center that looks like solder. Good .

As delicious as this sounds, we're sure this was a serious situation. Handbill includes photos and physical descriptions. GOOD condition. Several horizontal and vertical fold creases present. General uneven toning. Area of light staining along the bottom margin. Minor loss of paper along the lower left edge. Good .

Ephemeral piece from these long running games celebrating Scottish heritage. GOOD condition. Minor toning to the pinback. Ribbon darkened and creased, with some soiling and fading to the text. Good .

Boston: no date, presumed sometime between 1826 and 1853, based on the address of 30 Union Street in Boston. Thomas Hollis was located at 23 Union Street after 1853. Single piece of paper, folded into two approximately 8 by 10 sheets, each containing the same information. A short paragraph of directions for using French hair dye "without coloring the skin or injuring the hair." The key to this may have been the overnight application of lettuce or cabbage leaves to the hair. Thomas Hollis apparently established his business in 1821, and sold prescription drugs, among others. His sons took over the business in 1875. GOOD condition. Moderate uneven darkening with a few small, faint dampstains to the paper. Minor wrinkling. A hint of staining and soiling. Good .

An advertising pinback for Mast, Foos and Company, a manufacturer of pumps, mowers, tools, windmills and other machinery. The company was founded in 1875, and was acquired by another company in 1940. Established by Phineas Mast (perhaps best known for the "castle" he had built, and John Foos, an inventor who specialized in gas powered engines. GOOD condition. Moderate toning and soiling to the face, with some scuffing and a tiny scratch. Reverse rusted. Good .

Handwritten Deposition of Captain Robert Evans Describing the Lay out of the Town of Rochester, New Hampshire, Dated September 19th, 1753
No Place, No publisher, 1753. Unbound. Single sheet. Handwritten deposition recalling the testimony of Captain Robert Evans describing the lay out of the town of Rochester, mentioning a pine tree standing three rods due Southwest from the lower side of the first cove on the Southwesterly side of the Salmon Falls River, and going on to mention other landmarks such as a round rock, and a large white birch. We surmise that Captain Robert Evans was the same as that who died in 1753, in his eighties (the deposition also mentions his age), and who was described in his obituary as a rolling stone. Signed by a justice of the peace, Joseph Simpson, and stating Province of New Hampshire, Sept. 19th 1753. Reverse notes this was recorded in Dover town records. GOOD condition. Old white tape repairs to the reverse. Horizontal and vertical fold creases present. Minor foxing and spotting. Good .

A Happy New Year, 1879 Circular Cardboard Piece. Frank S. Smith and Edwin Morton Names Present
Boston, J.A. Lowell and Co, 1879. Unbound. no date, circa 1879. A single piece of thin cardboard, being a circle measuring 3 ½ inches in diameter. A very ornate New Year greeting piece, perhaps a trade card of some sort, although we could find no businesses mentioning both gentlemen. Text on the bottom indicates a patent was applied for, perhaps for this shape. It appears this circle may have been attached to something else at the bottom, as if this were some sort of tree topper. With intricate geometrical patterns reminiscent of the Art Deco aesthetic. GOOD condition. A few small spots of staining to the front. Minor general toning. Reverse (which is blank) with some dark scuffs and soiling. Good .
