Two memorial publications/proceedings from The Society of Colonial Wars in the District of Columbia bound between two pamphlets. All appear to be bound with their original wraps. These tracts are primarily historical addresses containing biographical and history on George Washington, Alexander R. Shepherd, Colonel Ninian Beall, Colonel Joseph Belt and Ainsworth Spofford. Alexander R. Shepherd was governor of the District of Columbia from 1873-74, and is sometimes called 'The father of Modern Washington,' and considered to have been an influential boss in the city(Wikipedia). 'Smallwood's Immortals' chronicles an early battle in the Revolutionary War, when a small group of troops from Maryland engaged a larger British force. Colonel Ninian Beall was an early settler in Maryland, having previously fought for the Scotch-English army and subsequently fighting Native American tribe of the Susquehannah. Colonel Joseph Belt was a colonel during the French and Indian War and a patentee of Chevy Chase, Maryland. Ainsworth Rand Spofford was the sixth librarian of congress of the United States. The piece on his life, containing work by several authors, also contains a chronological list of his writings. GOOD condition, slightly ex-library, with a bookplate on the inside cover. Pamphlets all bound in olive cloth. Minor soiling, general fading, and a few faint stains to the cloth. Extremities with moderate bumping and scuffing. Pamphlets with general toning to the paper. A few with minor pencil notes, marginalia and underlining. Minor scattered soiling and very minor foxing. Some of the wraps with some chipping and wear along the extremities, as well as minor notations/names to the covers. Good/No Jacket.

A single issue of this newspaper from Boston, containing several article and small pieces of news on the War of 1812. This includes battles, etc. as well as the court martial trial of General Hull. With a short piece on the Frigate USS Essex and its success in capturing or destroying British ships, including whaling vessels. This precedes the battle in which it was captured later in 1814. A short mention of a troop request to be sent to the frontier of Georgia to engage with Creek tribe is also present, alongside the various classified ads and auction announcements. GOOD condition. Several horizontal and vertical fold creases present. Moderate browning, with large, faint dampstaining present. Some soiling and staining. Old ink signature at the upper front page. Some creasing, chipping and tearing along the extremities, with a few tiny holes and loss to the paper itself. Good .

Single issue of this Chicago newspaper, published three days after the killing of Jesse James. This includes a lengthy account of the day of the killing, including quotes from Robert (Bob) Ford, the wife of Jesse James, and some background into the plot of the killing. Also in this issue is a short paragraph on Dick Liddle, a member of the James Gang, and his testimony as to robberies committed by the gang; and, a lengthy account of the Blue Cut Train Robbery by John Land, recalling the actions of the James Gang. Various items of news and commentary present, including the suicide of Cornelius Vanderbilt and the hanging of an African-American in Virginia, Doc Wright, who apparently murdered Coleman Arthur, and who was suspected of being part of a secret society called "The True Friends." GOOD condition. Horizontal and vertical fold creases present. Minor loss along the left edge, presumably nibbled away. General toning, some foxing, soiling and minor staining. A few chips and tears along the extremities. Good .
