Hood to promote their patent medicine, Hood's Sarsaparilla. Features testimonials as to its effectiveness in curing a variety of maladies, as well as a few humorous anecdotes. Rear page features four illustrations combining the macabre humor of Edward Gorey with the life lessons of Struwwelpeter. Captioned "Those Who Didn't Know," the illustrations depict a boy blowing an old woman's head off with a gun because he didn't know it was loaded; a woman blown up because she didn't know kerosene was explosive; a man blown to bits because he didn't know it was dangerous to sit on a can of powder and smoke; and, a boy with a finger cut off by moving machinery. GOOD condition. Fold crease, with other moderate to heavy creasing and wrinkling. Several chips and tears along the extremities. General toning. Minor spotting and soiling. Good .

No Place, No publisher. Pamphlet. No publisher, place or date. Presumed published by Hotel Times Square, New York: 1940s or 1950s. Single sheet 16 by 15 inches when unfolded. Black and white photos and a map of downtown New York/Times Square present. A promotional brochure for Hotel Times Square (presumably the one commonly known a Times Square Hotel), touting its rooms with running water, radios in every room and other amenities, as well as its location. Based on photos of the hotel, it appears this is the Times Square Hotel, with the building currently on the National Register of Historic Places. It was built in 1922 and served as a hotel until the 1970s, when it served as a home for Vietnam veterans and the mentally ill, before becoming residences for those with lower incomes. GOOD condition. Moderate large dampstain to the paper. General toning and minor soiling. Minor tearing, chipping and loss along some of the folds. Minor creasing. Good .

A thin cardboard promotional advertisement piece depicting a girl holding a box of Kleenex. It appears the piece is made to stand up by curling around the bottom portion and inserting a tab into a slot, although the area where the slot was is torn away. GOOD condition. Missing the aforementioned piece, affecting a 1 by 1 ½ inch area. Minor general toning. Some scuffing, bumping and creasing, with a small tear or two, along the extremities. Good .

Dated October 27th, 1889. The letter begins in part, "wondering what had become of all my friends for I guess they have all forsaken me." Ouch! The author mentions he hasn't had time to visit, and suggests that his sister should visit him since she presumably has time. He asks about some other people, and basically lays on a good old fashioned guilt trip over two pages. No indication as to the name of the writer or recipient. VERY GOOD condition. Minor fading. Very Good .

A map depicting the islands of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket, with what appear to be railroad lines in red, as well as steamboat lines. Part of Cape Cod and New Bedford also depicted. The rail lines may be the narrow gauge lines that were in operation on the islands from the late 1800s to about 1917. May have been part of a travel booklet at some point GOOD condition. Horizontal and vertical fold crease present, with a few other small wrinkles and creases present. Light toning and soiling. A few minor tears along the edges. Good .

No Place, No Publisher. Soft Cover. No date or names of family found, although a few dates on some photos indicate this is post 1933, presumably mid 1930s, maybe early 1940s. Flexible card covers. String tied binding. Folio. 63 leaves. Various sized photos throughout, most around 2 ½ by 4 ½ inches, although a few are panoramic shots and some are smaller. Most appear taken by the family, with some appearing to be souvenir photos purchased on the trip. The majority of photos depict areas of Western United States, including Colorado and the Pikes Peak Railroad and various mining operations, Bryce Canyon, Salt Lake City and Zion in Utah, the Grand Canyon, areas in California along the coast, Yosemite, Washington, areas in and around Alberta, Canada, Yellowstone and other areas. The subject is mostly scenery with the family members often posed in the front, as well as a few shots of buildings, small western towns or cities, including those in California. Laid in at the rear is a Shell map of the United States with the route driven apparently traced in ink. A small record of expenditures, filled in by hand is also present, as well as two souvenir letters from Butte, Montana printed on copper. GOOD+ condition. General fading, minor curling, scuffing and edgewear to the covers. Paper toned in the interior, although the photos are crisp. Good .

Black and white illustrations throughout. An apparent promotional magazine issued by the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad Company commemorating 100 years of 'progress.' This features a lengthy history of the railroad, chronicling its establishment of rail lines throughout the Midwest and western United States. With an account of a hold up by Jesse James and the James Gang, 'Lot Jumping' by Oklahoma City pioneers and other historical anecdotes involving the railroad. The Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad Company opened its first line in 1854, and subsequently established many other lines until folding in 1980. GOOD condition. Included in this list is 'set by insane hired girl.' GOOD condition. Postage stamp affixed to the front cover. Minor to moderate soiling and staining, with many small dots of soiling to the upper front and fore edge of the front cover. No Place, No Publisher, 1863. Unbound. Two handwritten letters from a Mary W (or M) Tolver (or Colver) apparently to her brother Hosea. Dated October 5 and 6, 1863 and written in Providence, Rhode Island. 5x8 inches. The first is 4 pages long and the second is a follow up to the first, being 1 ¼ pages long. Both letters address circumstances surrounding a machine being built, at one point referred to as Thomas's Machine. A Horatio Morrell is mentioned as the one to help completing the machine. Ms. Tolver also makes several references to the Burnside Rifle Factory, which was apparently very near her house, and the possibility of housing the machine in its facilities, as well as having access to its mechanics. She also refers to a Mr. Ackerman, who has a 'Booking Business' in the area and who is interested in the machine. Mention of moving the piece to Boston is also present. The second letter follows up on the possibility of housing the machine at the Burnside facility, citing conversations with a few named people in regard to that matter. No mention is made of what the machine does, with various internet searches not yielding any information. VERY GOOD condition, with horizontal and vertical fold creases present. Minor toning and wrinkling. Very Good .

Illustrated wraps, with an aircraft engine on the front cover and a black and white photo of a bomber airplane and airmen standing at attention. Folio. 32 pp. including covers. Black and white photos throughout. A pictorial look at Chanute Field, a technical training school for soldiers then in the Army Air Force. This includes a look at combat training, mechanical and other training involved in maintaining aircraft and ground facilities, as well as documentation of entertainment and other aspects of a soldier's life. Many allusions to fighting in World War II throughout, as well as photos of various aircraft. Also present is a two page handwritten letter on Army Air Forces letterhead, dated October 21, 1944, and written from a soldier to his mother and father. This letter describes life at the camp, the P.X.s and the author's scheme (with another soldier) to get a new field jacket. GOOD+ condition. Minor soiling, fading and wrinkling to the book, with light fading and toning in the interior. Good .
